Despite the steep increase in property prices over the last 10 years, believe it or not – there are still places in the capital where you can get a 3 bedroomed place for under £550,000. And whilst it’s true that it is mostly a case of ‘you get what you pay for’ and ‘it’s cheap for a reason’… not in every case! Check out these 5 micro-locations in the capital that even the most die-hard Londoners might not be aware of…
The five London areas where a house costs the same as a central flat
Higham Hill is more than just a suburb of Walthamstow. This secret suburb offers spectacular eastwards views towards Epping Forest and Claybury. It’s a residential area, with streets of neat period houses – but you will also find art deco industrial architecture, abundant allotments, and well-kept open space.
Situated south-east of Wood Green tube station, what was once 100 acres of farmland belonging to Dovecote House, is now a lesser known and surprisingly affordable spot of London. The architecture is distinguished by the turret-like gables surmounting many corner houses, with some of these seeming to have been designed to resemble dovecotes in honour of the farm that they replaced.
Just a couple of miles from Greenwich town centre and home to a thriving local community (as well as some beautiful Tudor and Art Deco architecture), this green and leafy suburb just so happens the birthplace of Bob Hope and Boy George. Henry VIII spent his entire childhood here and absolutely loved it.
This neighbourhood in Lewisham, is often unfairly ignored by those looking for places to live in the capital. The area however is surprisingly affordable, given the wide array of things to do here and its proximity to the capital.
This railway suburb is mainly streets of small Victorian terraces (within easy reach of Wanstead Flats). There are also some new developments of apartments. It’s surprisingly good value and you can get some fantastic deals on property here – especially if you aren’t afraid of a bit of renovation.
