As you are all probably aware, coronavirus is continuing to spread – and as a result, Uk Chief Medical Officers have now raised the risk to public from low to moderate. As advice currently stands, landlords and agents don’t need to take any particular action in relation to tenant’s exposure. However, tailored advice is as follows.
Try and avoid touching keys/door handles etc with your bare hands. Do not shake hands and try to keep a safe distance from tenants (6 feet). If you are worried about appearing rude, then a simple, polite message prior to meetings should resolve this for you – it’s likely that they will have been advised the same anyway. Carry anti-bacterial hand sanitiser with you at all times (especially if you do not have access to soap and water) and use it at regular intervals (making sure you let it dry). It’s advisable that landlords (especially of HMO’s) alert tenants to potential risk and ask that they follow these simple hygiene practices as recommended by the NHS.
- Wash hands thoroughly for at least 20 seconds with soap and water
- Wash hands as soon as you enter the workplace and as soon as you get home
- Use hand sanitiser in the absence of soap
- Cover your mouth and nose with tissue when you sneeze or cough
- Put used tissues in the bin straight after use and wash hands immediately
- Try your best to avoid contact with sick people
- Try to avoid close contact with people
- Don’t touch your eyes, nose or mouth if your hands are not clean

IF YOU HAVE ANY SYMPTOMS OF CORONAVIRUS THEN PLEASE STAY AT HOME!
The main symptoms to look out for are as follows:
- A COUGH
- A HIGH TEMPERATURE
- SHORTNESS OF BREATH
*Please don’t panic if you have any of these symptoms. You don’t necessarily have the illness – but it’s best to play it safe in this instance. If you suspect you do however – you should call 111 or talk to your medical services. Do NOT go to the doctor or hospital. You will need to self-isolate.
